A drunk driver killed one woman and injured four others in Helsinki on Friday night after driving at high speed into pedestrians on a zebra crossing.

Police say there are no indications of any terror link, but the driver had consumed alcohol.

The incident happened on the corner of Mannerheimintie and Lönnrotinkatu in the centre of the city at around 18:15.

STT reports that eyewitnesses had observed the car driving at high speed along nearby streets for two hours leading up to the crash—but police said they received no reports about the car until after it had hit pedestrians.

The injured, who according to police include two Russian citizens, one Estonian citizen and a Finnish citizen, have been taken to hospital. None of those hurt in the incident received life-threatening injuries.

Road closures were in place around the scene on Friday evening.
