Police: Sex crimes on the rise

Sex-related crimes increased by 12,6 percent in 2016, which totals nearly 3 370 reports on sexual abuse last year. Rape cases increased by 11 percent and suspected sexual assault cases doubled.

2016 was a steady year for the Finnish police, with 806 433 reported crimes – only 0,2 percent more than in 2015.

Despite the overall crime rate staying stable, there was a significant rise in reported sex crimes. Out of a total of 3 370 sex-related crimes, rape cases increased by 11 percent and suspected sexual assaults doubled.

In 2016, police received around 1 170 reports on rape, up from 1 050 the previous year. Foreign nationals were suspected of rape in 34,5 percent of cases.

Meanwhile, sexual assault reports rose to 530 compared to 280 in 2015. Of these cases, 147 suspects were foreign nationals and 167 were Finnish citizens, up from 58 and 122 suspects respectively.

Consequently child sexual abuse cases increased by ten percent.

Police had identified the assailant in nearly 2 400 of sex-related crimes. In 29 percent of cases the suspected offender was a foreign national, compared to 18,5 percent in 2015.

  1. I’ll repost what I posted in the reader comments at Vlad Tepes blog:

“Despite the overall crime rate staying stable, there was a significant rise in reported sex crimes [in 2016]. Out of a total of 3 370 sex-related crimes, rape cases increased by 11 percent and suspected sexual assaults doubled.”

    Hmmmm…..

“Foreign nationals were suspected of rape in 34.5 percent of cases.”

Now, Finland has a lot of foreign nationals who from other European countries, but somehow I don’t think that it’s Russians, Estonians, and Swedes who are driving up the rape statistics. Also, counting foreign nations would miss the sexual assault committed by Muslims who have somehow gained Finnish citizenship, either by birth or dubious immigration policies.

“Police had identified the assailant in nearly 2 400 of sex-related crimes. In 29 percent of cases the suspected offender was a foreign national, compared to 18.5 percent in 2015. ”

I can’t believe this article went up. Is there a renaissance of realism going on in Finland?

Some quick back of the envelope math for this article, according to the website below:
    https://www.stat.fi/tup/suoluk/suoluk_vaesto_en.html

Finland’s population was 5 487 000 in 2015, and only 229 765 foreigners lived there. So a pool of that makes up 4.2% of the people living in Finland provides us with 34.5% of rape suspects and 29% of sex crime suspects. And 42% of foreign nationals living in Finland were either Estonian, Russian, Swedish or Chinese, nationalities which aren’t exactly known for raping women. Unlike say, Somalis or Afghans. And as I said before this also presumably doesn’t count rapes by Muslims with Finnish citizenship.

Also, what could be responsible for that 56% increase(in 2016 vs 2015) in the percentage of sex crimes in which a foreigner was suspected? Well, the same site shows that in 2014 there were 3651 asylum seekers in Finland. In 2015 that number jumped to 32 476, but presumably most of those entered in the latter half of the year and so didn’t spend most of 2015 in Finland. So their effect on sex crime stats wouldn’t be wholly felt until 2016. This news release doesn’t make any reference to the 2014 sex crime numbers. I’d be really curious to see those.

Do you know of any way to get the 2014 numbers, so we could see what percentage of sex crimes were perpetrated by foreigners before the great hijra started?
