NOTE: Sufis are also very violent and jihad inclined as well.

A 72-year-old woman believed to be a Sufi mystic has been found with her throat slit in Bangladesh.

The body of Nurjahan Begum was found inside her home in Dhaka on Sunday.

Ms Begum was thought to be a ‘pir’ or a Sufi leader by her followers, who believed she had supernatural powers.

But police say that she was not a mystic but was a mentally ill woman.

Local police chief Faruqul Alam confirmed that her throat was slit.

This is the fourteenth time a Sufi leader has been killed since 2013 in a new wave of religiously motivated attacks.

Police believe it has been caused by homegrown Islamist extremists as hardliners think Sufism is heresy.

In one of the worst cases a Sufi cleric, his son and four followers were found with their throats cut at their Dhaka home.

The Muslim-majority country of 160 million has been reeling from a wave of attacks on foreigners, rights activists and members of religious minorities.

Many of those have been claimed by the Islamic State group or Al-Qaeda.
