Romania in TURMOIL as president REJECTS the first Muslim woman prime ministerial candidate
ROMANIA’S president has rejected the country’s first female Muslim prime ministerial candidate, it has been revealed.
Klaus Iohannis said he “carefully considered” Sevil Shhaideh’s proposal but decided not to accept her nomination put forward by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after “weighing the arguments for and against”.
Ms Shhaideh, also a member of the country’s Muslim Tartar minority, was nominated by Liviu Dragnea, leader of the SDP, because he is unable to nominate himself for prime minister after being convicted of electoral fraud.
Traian Băsescu, the former Romanian President previously said Ms Shhaideh’s husband, a Syrian who spent most of his career working in the country’s agriculture ministry, posed a problem for Romania and her candidacy becuase of his support for the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
