Jussi Halla-aho: Independence being defined in new way, Finland’s 100th anniversary will become self-flagellation
MEP believes that “Patriotism does not mean multiculturalism, but consideration of the nation’s interests and defense.”
Finns Party MEP Jussi Halla-aho writes in Facebook, reflecting on why he wasn’t seen at the Independence Day celebrations.
He states that toppling of statues is a bad way to make a cultural revolution. More effective is to give new meanings of symbols, rituals and statues.
– Therefore, Helsingin Sanomat does not directly attack patriotism or independence, but rather defines patriotism and independence, as internationalism, tolerance, multiculturalism and such, Jussi Halla-aho says.
– Anyone who does not agree with the “internationalism”, “tolerance”, multiculturalism and the like, is thus not patriotic, but stale nationalist.
According to Halla-aho, independence does not mean tolerance, but the fact that a nation can decide for themselves on matters concerning themselves. He hopes for the protection of the word “patriotism” .
– Patriotism does not mean multiculturalism, but consideration of the nation’s best interests and defense.”, he writes.
– When I was a child, there was no doubt about these things. Now I shudder in advance of the 100th anniversary of independence. Next year, there will be an accelerating of national tours of unprecedented torrential of self-flagellation. It will be depressing to watch.
In Halla-aho’s view, it’s not neccessary to get into a shouting match with irrational wiseguys. He says this year he decided as a patriotic act to instead to stay away from the presidential mansion, and work to fight against new asylum procedures and Europe’s Asylum Office.
