Slovak PM Robert Fico is at the centre of a row over misspent public funds
At a news conference on Wednesday, Fico told the journalists: “Some of you are dirty, anti-Slovak prostitutes, and I stand by my words.
“You don’t inform, you fight with the government.”
Fico’s outburst came after a former employee of the foreign ministry accused the department of avoiding public-procurement rules, working instead with an events agency that has ties to Fico’s left-wing Smer party for a ceremony in February to unveil the presidency logo.
Zuzana Hlavkova, 26, posted on the blog of anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International, who have since asked three separate organisations to look into Slovakia’s public procurement bureau, its anti-monopoly bureau and its supreme audit office.
The prime minister believes the accusations were part of a planned attack to discredit the country’s EU presidency, which ends next month.
