Video of Belgian nuclear official seized in Paris attacks probe

17th February 2016,

Investigators probing last year’s deadly jihadist attacks in Paris have found video footage of a senior Belgian nuclear official, the federal prosecutor said Wednesday.

The Belgian prosecutor confirmed the existence of “images mentioned by the press this morning regarding a person linked to the nuclear industry,” in reference to a report in the daily La Derniere Heure.

The footage was discovered “as part of seizures made following the Paris attacks,” the prosecutor added, refusing to divulge the individual’s identity “for obvious security reasons”.

France has been under a state of emergency since jihadist gunmen attacked several sites in Paris on November 13, killing 130 people and leaving 350 wounded.

Since mid-November, 11 people have been arrested and charged in Belgium in connection with the killings. Key suspect Salah Abdeslam and his associate Mohamed Abrini, both from the Molenbeek area of Brussels, are still at large.

ISIS after EU nuclear plant? Paris attackers snooped on Belgian nuclear boss, media reveal

The terror cell behind the November attacks in Paris was interested in the movements of the head of Belgium’s nuclear program, media in the country have reported. This could indicate that Islamic State is planning to target European nuclear facilities.

An exclusive report by Belgium’s Derniere Heure media outlet claims that the trail of the terrorist cell that staged the deadly attacks in Paris on November 13, which left 130 dead and 350 injured, led investigators to apartments in Belgium. The video material retrieved in one of the locations raised issues of national and European security.

Paris terrorists were targeting Belgian nuclear plants

According to the Belgian popular newspaper La Dernière Heure, security has been enhanced around Belgian nuclear plants, after investigators acquired the conviction that the Belgian and French terrorists of North African extraction who killed 130 people and left 350 wounded in Paris in November last year were initially planning to attack nuclear plants in Belgium.

In one of the hide-outs in Brussels, investigators have found more than ten hours of video footage of the house of the chief of the Belgian nuclear researches in Flanders. The official had been tracked and followed for a long time by the terrorists who finally committed the massacres in Paris, which already constitutes a serious breach in security and a serious embarrassment for the Belgian security services.

Terrorist suspects filmed nuclear exec’s home

SCK-CEN
Wed 17/02/2016 – 12:15 CDC Belgian investigators are trying to establish the significance of a video film that they encountered during house searches following the Paris attacks. The film shows the home of a top executive in the Flemish nuclear industry.

The film shows the home of the director of the nuclear research centre in Mol (Antwerp Province).

Investigators have also established that an attempt to destroy the film was made, but this did not succeed.

The video, discovered last December, contains ten hours of footage showing the executive’s home. The existence of the film was first reported by the daily La Dernière Heure and has been confirmed by the federal prosecutor’s office. The paper suggests that terrorists planned to target a nuclear power station, but there is no evidence for this.

At first investigators were unable to place the images, but pictures of a bus driving past helped them to identify the location. It’s believed that the images were made using a hidden camera set up outside the man’s home. The footage shows the executive leaving his home and arriving back. The images also show how two men come to collect the camera in a car with tinted windows. Investigators are still to establish when the images were made. At present there are no indications to suggest that terrorists were targeting a Belgian nuclear power station as the centre’s director was not directly linked to any.
