The number of asylum seekers from Russia to Lapland further increased during the past week.

A total of 154 asylum seekers crossed the Russian-Finnish border at Raja-Jooseppi and Salla.

Only during the weekend 44 people searched for asylum at Salla and 22 at Raja-Jooseppi.

Since the beginning of the year, nearly 800 asylum seekers arrived at the two border crossings. That compares with just under 700 new arrivals throughout the last year.

The asylum seekers have come from 30 different countries. The majority say they are from Afghanistan, India, Syria and Bangladesh.
