Good fences make for safer and stronger civil societies.
Slovenia prepared to erect fence
More than 330 thousand migrants have entered Croatia since the migrant route detoured onto its territory in mid-September. Thousands of refugees and migrants continue to arrive in Europe via the Mediterranean each day even as winter approaches.
The UNHCR is appelaing to donors for another 100M dollars in aid for Greece and other countries along the migration route. The UN agency’s new winter plan anticipates as many as 5,000 arrivals to reach Greece each day from Turkey from now until February 2016.
The migrant crisis is expected to dominate a meeting between Slovenia’s Prime Minister Miro Cerar and his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban in Lendava on Friday.
Slovenia’s public broadcaster TV Slovenia says the country’s government has bought 125km of wire fence at a cost of 1.5M euros. The fence could be placed on the border with Croatia to control the influx of migrants into the country.
