Swedish Yle: Red Cross’s blood bank service in need of African blood

Finns released by blood is not always suitable, for example, people born in Somalia blood transfusions.

The growth in the numbers of foreigners in Finland has also stung the Red Cross’s blood transfusion service with a new challenge. For example, in emergency situations the appropriate blood for Somalis is not always found in Finland.

Swedish Yle reports that the Red Cross’s blood service is now trying to forcefully look for foreign blood donors and in particular of African descent. The Finnish Red Cross has informed, via  the Finnish Muslim community.

Groups from various parts of the world may be those of human blood groups which do not correspond to that of Finnish blood groups.

According to the Finnish Red Cross, in some cases it has been necessary to order blood, for example, from Great Britain.

A, B and O blood groups are universal, but in addition, there are other rare blood groups.
