Keuruu’s former pioneer regiment’s barracks would have become Finland’s largest reception center, which has had preliminary plans that could accommodate about 500 people.

The unoccupied barracks building include a large kitchen, dining halls, class rooms, wash rooms, health center, offices , sports facilities, canteen, storage facilities and a cinema hall.

The Finnish Immigration Service Desk Unit Director Jorma Kuuluvainen, said the establishment’s new centers would facilitate a very precarious living conditions of accommodation for asylum seekers. “The negative decision is unfortunate. We have to think about what to do next and what alternatives we have. All the capacity we have, is needed right now, “says Kuuluvainen.
