The head of the infectious diseases department of the National Institute for Health and Welfare, THL, Mika Salminen said that Finns should not be fearful of asylum seekers. He said the majority of those arriving are entirely healthy, and among those that do have health issues are mostly chronic ailments and psychological illness.

Salminen said that many asylum seekers arrive from countries without a functioning health care system or vaccination programme; a portion of those are unable to tell health care givers about their vaccination histories.
