About half-an-hour into their three-day coach tour, Michelle and Kate were told they would be spending the first night in a hotel crammed with asylum seekers.
‘The driver told us to lock our doors and not to leave any valuables on show,’ says Michelle.
‘He said he thought some of the refugees might have gone from the hotel by the time we arrived, but when we got here there were still plenty around.
‘They are wary of us and we are wary of them,’ adds Kate, still slightly astonished at the strange turn her short summer break has taken.
