Has a deal been struck with ISIS to exchange female suicide bomber for two hostages? Jordanian state TV says it is willing to swap terrorist for pilot after Japanese minister says journalist will be free ‘within hours’
Japanese journalist Kenji Goto (left) and Jordanian pilot Mu’ath al-Kaseasbeh (in picture held by Mr Goto) have been threatened with execution this afternoon unless Jordan frees Iraqi terrorist Sajida al-Rishawi (right). Information Minister Mohammed al-Momani said ‘Jordan is ready to release the Iraqi prisoner’ if al-Kaseasbeh is released unharmed, according to a statement on Jordan’s state television. But Mr al-Momani made no mention of Mr Goto. In separate developments, efforts to free Mr Goto were thrown into confusion after Tokyo was forced to deny reported comments by one of its ministers that a deal was imminent.
