Finnish Security Police raised terrorism risk level owing to ISIS activity
In an interview with Yle’s TV1 on Saturday morning, Minister of the Interior Päivi Räsänen said the terrorism threat risk assessment level was raised last summer owing to increased activity by terrorist organisation ISIS, who were recruiting in Finland.
The Finnish Security Intelligence Service (known as SUPO) raised the terrorism threat assessment risk last summer owing to increased activity by terrorist organisation ISIS, who were recruiting in Finland, according to Minister of the Interior Päivi Räsänen.
In an interview with Yle TV 1 this morning, Räsänen said the social media has played a significant role in ISIS recruitment in the country.
She said Finnish officials on all levels are closely monitoring the situation.
Räsänen also expressed concern about Finnish nationals fighting in Syria.
“We need to protect our society,” said Räsänen, and cited the radicalisation of immigrants in Finland. “Above all, we have responsibility to protect our society from violence.”
She said that amendments to the law are currently underway and Finnish officials are on high alert regarding the return of jihadists from Syria to Finland.
“Terrorism recruiting takes place largely via the internet and SUPO needs to have the right to monitor internet traffic,” she said, referring to the law that forbids the police from doing so because of privacy laws. Yle
Hopefully, the Finnish government will close ranks with Israel in the effort to respond to the security threat posed by clones of the Ikhwan like ISIS.
I believe that there is more contact and cooperation between the two than the government is willing to admit, and this is in spite of the radical anti-Israel FM’s bloviations.
