Supreme Court to hear culmination of lawsuit over death of Gaza protester Rachel Corrie
Just over 11 years after the death of US activist Rachel Corrie, the final battle in one of the country’s highest-profile legal sagas, over whether Israel had responsibility for wrongful death, will come to a crescendo on Wednesday in arguments before the Supreme Court.
In August 2012, Judge Oded Gershon from the Haifa District Court had said that Corrie, who was killed in disputed circumstances involving an IDF bulldozer on March 16, 2003, while protesting an IDF home demolition in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, could have avoided the dangerous situation, and called her death a “regrettable accident.”
