Dutchman ‘who drove Canadian girl, 15, to suicide by spreading topless photos of her on Facebook’ is arrested

Police have confirmed that a Dutch/Turkish national has been arrested in the case of a Canadian teenage who was blackmailed to expose herself

Amanda Todd,15, was found dead on last October after she killed herself to escape cyber bullies

An arrest has been made in the Netherlands in the case of a Canadian teenager who was blackmailed to expose herself in front of a webcam, Canadian police confirmed on Thursday.

The 15-year-old girl, Amanda Todd, later committed suicide after detailing her harassment on a YouTube video watched by millions around the world.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Insp. Paulette Freill said a suspect has been arrested in the Netherlands and charged with extortion, luring and criminal harassment and possession of child pornography for the purpose of distribution.

Police did not release the name of the 35-year-old man and declined to release specifics of the case but said there were other victims in Canada and internationally.

Dutch prosecutors said the man is suspected of blackmailing girls in the U.S., Britain and the Netherlands. Canadian police said they would seek extradition.

Amanda Todd brought the problem of cyber bullying to mainstream attention in Canada after she posted a video on YouTube in which she told her story with handwritten signs, describing how she was lured by a stranger to expose her breasts on a webcam.

LEBANESE MAN ADMITS TO THAI TERROR PLOT TO BOMB ISRAELIS

A Lebanese man arrested in Thailand earlier this week on suspicion of ties to terror group Hezbollah admitted to plotting a bomb attack on Israeli tourists in Bangkok, the Bangkok Post reported Friday.

On Tuesday, Lebanese-French citizen Daud Farhat and Lebanese-Philippine citizen Yousef Ayyad, both of whom have been on the Thai immigration watchlist for possible Hezbollah ties, were detained for questioning.

According to police, Ayyad confessed that he and at least two others entered Thailand to carry out a bombing against Israeli tourists in Bangkok as well as other Israeli groups on Khao San Road over Passover and the Thai New Year — Songkran — which coincided this week.  The third suspect remains at large.

Thai authorities said the men were arrested at different locations in Bangkok after Thai police received intelligence from Israel about a planned attack on Israeli tourists during the Jewish holiday of Passover.

LABOUR COUNCILLOR: PATRIOTIC, £4 FLAGS ARE TOO EXPENSIVE BECAUSE ‘BUDGETS ARE STRETCHED’

LABOUR COUNCILLOR: PATRIOTIC, £4 FLAGS ARE TOO EXPENSIVE BECAUSE ‘BUDGETS ARE STRETCHED’

A Labour councillor has expressed his concerns about schoolchildren singing the national anthem and raising the Union Flag because of the “cost” of the proposed moves.

A Conservative councillor in Bolton, Mudasir Dean, proposed the moves in order to encourage patriotism. Dean’s grandfather was the town’s first Indian immigrant, reportsthe Mail.

But despite the backing of the local Labour-run council, Cllr Chris Peacock opposed the plans, insisting that the patriotic moves would cost too much. He said: “Who will pay for these new flag poles and flags? Schools’ budgets are already stretched. Raising the Union flag won’t raise standards – that should be our priority.”

A large Union Flag with eyelets runs at about £3.99 on eBay, while flagpoles can be bought for less than £60 online.

Councillor Dean said: “If we were more patriotic – if we sang our national anthem and flew our flag – and instilled it in our younger generations, [immigrants] would do [too]”.

Bolton council is now set to write to schools in the area and ask them to consider flying the flag and incorporating a performance of God Save the Queen into the school day.

A Chinese blogger who was accused of spreading rumours about the government and celebrities has been jailed for three years for ‘rumour mongering’.

Marketing employee Qin Zhihui, 30, is believed to be the first person to be jailed since China’s authorities announced a crackdown on online writers last August.

Authorities claimed a false post he wrote about a foreign victim of a 2011 train crash receiving £24million in compensation was reposted more than 11,000 times and commented on more than 3,000 times, inciting anger against the government.

Qin, from Hunan province, was also found guilty of spreading rumors about several celebrities including popular television hostess Yang Lan, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Chaoyang District People’s Court heard the rumours were spread in 2012 and 2013 through Sina Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter.
