Gunmen Kill Soldier in Northern Lebanon

BEIRUT March 28, 2014 (AP)

Lebanese state media say gunmen have killed a soldier in the northern city of Tripoli, which has been ensnared in Syria-related violence.

National News Agency says assailants opened fire on the vehicle of Butrous Baya early Friday, killing him instantly. The soldier was a member of Lebanon’s so-called internal security force.

The attack comes a day after two attackers killed an officer, also in Tripoli.

Clashes linked to the Syrian civil war have killed more than two dozen people in Tripoli in recent days, prompting the Lebanese military to bring in reinforcements to try to quell the flareups.

Iran and Iraq ‘killing sprees’ hike global death penalty numbers, says Amnesty

27/03 12:53 CET

“Killing sprees” in Iran and Iraq have caused a sharp global spike in the number of executions carried out in 2013, said Amnesty International in its latest report on death penalties and executions, released Thursday (March 27).

The 15% rise comes at odds with a steady decline in the use of capital punishment around the world over the last two decades.

“The virtual killing sprees we saw in countries like Iran and Iraq were shameful,” said Salil Shetty, Amnesty’s Secretary General in a statement. “But those states who cling to the death penalty are on the wrong side of history and are, in fact, growing more and more isolated.”

The 62-page report revealed last year’s global and country-specific death sentences rate, which amounted to 778 known executions worldwide compared to 682 in 2012.

One Response

  1. The image provided for the “Egyptian shot dead in Libya” segment of this post illustrates a troubling concern. Note the uniform . . .which was not a common feature on these beastly slaves of satan. It illustrates the ‘who/where/how/when/why’ of the values system in these pits of moon god slavery continues to shamelessly waste the vast amount of Western blood and treasure sacrificed during ‘nation building’ efforts .
Morbid waste will not be limited to – nor simply end – ‘over there’. Politically mandated ignorance in the form of persistent PC/MC efforts will demonstrate the effectiveness of Western military training of soldiers-of-allah on our own shores.
    Despicable.
