In its appeasement to the American branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR, the Associated Press does us all a big favor, albeit for all the wrong reason, as well as highlighting what we in the Counterjihad have been saying all along. That fundamentalist Islam encompasses a far greater number within the Islamic world than most would care to admit. Sometimes the word squeaks out, even by accident. From one of my favorite columnists Lori Lowenthal Marcus, her recent piece on the AP includes this:
”Although “Islamist” is still a defined term in the AP Stylebook, reporters are now admonished not to use it to mean something objectionable. The entry for “Islamist” now reads, with emphasis added by Politico:”
An advocate or supporter of a political movement that favors reordering government and society in accordance with laws prescribed by Islam. Do not use as a synonym for Islamic fighters, militants, extremists or radicals, who may or may not be Islamists. Where possible, be specific and use the name of militant affiliations: al-Qaida-linked, Hezbollah, Taliban, etc. (TT:Highlighted)Those who view the Quran as a political model encompass a wide range of Muslims, from mainstream politicians to militants known as jihadi.
Though it’s news that CAIR manages to pressure the AP in redefining its terminology in its Stylebook, for me however, where the story lies is not in the change of labels, but in the admission that there are far more Muslims who believe the koran as a political model, the sharia. In order not to offend this huge demographic, CAIR pressures the AP in dropping the term for the Muslims pursuing the violent version of the jihad.
I for one have long since dropped the usage of the term ”Islamists” altogether (though it remains in the header showing the starting point of this blog) prefering the more accurate term of fundamentalist Islam/Muslim. It’s a fact that every Muslim trying to instill the sharia wherever they reside and elsewhere, all adhere to the fundamentals of Islam, meaning, political Islam = sharia.
Fundamentalist Islam/Muslim more accurately describes the phenomenon than “Islamist” ever could. The AP in this situation does us all a favor, albeit for all the wrong reasons.
