The international media will run with this …BIG TIME.

This sucks, but there must be something waiting in the wings for Israel to turn a blade on itself in such a dramatic way. The Turks win the moment, but perhaps the Israelis win the airspace.

JERUSALEM –  Israel’s leader has announced the restoration of normal diplomatic relations with Turkey after apologizing for the deaths of nine Turkish activists in a 2009 Israeli naval raid on a Gaza-bound international flotilla.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday that he had expressed regret during a phone call with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. President Barack Obama helped arrange the call shortly before leaving Israel.

Netanyahu said the “tragic results” were not intentional and Israel “expressed remorse” for the loss of life. He cited “operational mistakes.”

  1. Right now there is a minor difficulty for us in that part of the world ( among others) – Syria.

The West needs the cooperation of Israel and Turkey to set in place some plan against Syria – I know not what but there must be one.

  2. When you get down to the essence of the misery and killings – its all about Sunni verus Shia . . . ’twas ever thus.

How many hundereds of thousands of lives have been pointlessly destroyed because of a disagreement about the rightful line of descent from ‘the prophet’?

Aristotle’s classic defintion of man as “the rational animal” sounds good at first glance, but when you look at the internicine warfare raged down the centuries between Sunni and Shia, you have to question the breadth of Aristotle’s defintion.

In the case of Islam it doesn’t stand up – and they would probably be the first to admit that!
