Egypt Weapon Sales to Israel's enemies

WEAPONS SALE TO EGYPT IN DOUBT AS PRESSURE MOUNTS TO NIX THE DEAL……

It’s called prudent thinking.

Yeah, like you would really want to see high tech weapons in the hands of imbeciles like this. Great going team Obama, or at least calling the shots to those who know how to use them.

Later this month, the new government in Egypt is scheduled to begin taking delivery of 10 F-16 fighter jets and 200 Abrams tanks – courtesy of U.S. taxpayers.

The $213 million deal is part of a foreign aid package signed when American ally Hosni Mubarak was president, but a growing chorus of critics say the Obama administration should pull the plug. They cite Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood government’s mixed signals to the U.S. and Israel, as well as America’s fiscal problems, as reasons for rescinding the deal.

  1. IMHO the hypocrites in this administration and previous have always doled out ‘aid’ at their whim to suit the political needs at the moment, never considering long term political , economic, and human rights ramifications. Sadly much of our US supplied military ‘hardware’ has killed an incalculable amount of innocent folks, caught up in all of the political and fanatical religious upheaval. One day a regime is our ‘good friend and ally’ and the next they are sadistic and brutal oppressors.

    1. Frank:

Your overall thesis may be correct, but blaming the current administration ignores the fact that US aid to Egypt started in 1983 under the Reagan Administration and hasn’t changed much since.

  2. As of now, Egypt is on schedule to go completely bankrupt in 2 months. See jinsa.org for more details. The media is not covering this story, but the fallout will clearly be newsworthy.

A compelling reason to ship the weapons is that they are already made. What do we do with them if we don’t give them to Egypt? Can the Egyptians really utilize planes and tanks if they’re bankrupt and can’t get fuel for them?

A compelling reason to halt the weapons shipment is that Egypt is in far more need of economic aid than military aid. I know what you’re thinking! Let ’em go broke. I am in no hurry to rush to that conclusion.

It’s bad enough to witness the carnage in Syria. I’d really rather not see Egypt break out into anarchy. I don’t think such a scenario would be good for Israel’s security.

Egypt is a mess! No matter how hard the news media tries to romance the “Arab Spring” revolution, the hard facts of life are within months of being evident to all. The news media has been sweeping so much dirt under the carpet, the lumps are beginning to show.

It is questionable whether anyone can rule Egypt. However, if we halt the weapons transfer and use the money to help Egypt reorganize their treasury, there could be a chance to avoid a catastrophe. For that reason, I’d advise selling the weapons to someone else and providing economic aid instead.

Not like anyone listens to little-ole-me.
