I was in Herat in 1978. The situation there, unfortunately, was more of the “Portable prison” than “Parish fashion”, already back then.

There is another series of photos from 1950s to today about women at an Egyptian University class. About 5 over 60 years. 1950′s, like the above, then over the years headbags slip in, and burkha like dress and by the latest, all in headbags and some in burqa like bags. It’s like watching the lights go out slowly.
