A ROUNDUP OF FINNISH MEDIA REPORTING ON THE PERTTI SALOLAINEN-GATE AFFAIR………

Both YLE and Uusisuomi fail to provide the full quote.

It’s not like the Finnish public funded state broadcaster didn’t have access to the exact quote of Salolainen’s statement from it’s own morning program, Aamu TV. YLE’s news site has the following report where it ”rounds off” what the National Coalition parliamentarian actually said:

Translation:

Salolainen said on YLE’s program on Firday, that the United States has a difficulty in taking a more neutral role in the Israel and Palestinian conflict, because Jews have a lot of influence in the economy and media.

Eh, not so fast YLE, that is not exactly what Mr. Salolainen said. Here is the exact quote, in Finnish then directly below it in English:

“Yhdysvaltojen on vaikea ottaa neutraalimpaa kantaa tässä Israel-Palestiina-asiassa, koska heillä on niin vaikutusvaltainen juutalaisväestö, jolla on sekä rahat että media käsissä. Yhdysvaltain hallinto ei ole oikein uskaltanut lähteä sisäpoliittisista syistä tekemään riittävästi tämän asian kanssa. Tämä on surkea totuus Yhdysvaltojen politiikasta”

Translation:

– The United States finds it difficult to take a more neutral stance on the Israel-Palestine issue, because they have such an influential Jewish population, which has both money and the media in its hands to a large extent. The U.S. Administration has not dared to venture, due to internal political reasons, enough with this issue. This is terrible truth about U.S. policy.

That is greatly different from what YLE is reporting, influence in the economy and in the media, vs. has the money and the media in its hands.

Over at the Finnish Uusisuomi news site, the editor refrains from printing the first part of the quote, the more damaging portion, instead only the second half is printed

– The U.S. Administration has not dared to venture, due to internal political reasons, enough with this issue. This is terrible truth about U.S. policy. ” Salolainen stated.

They do however mention that:

Järjestön mukaan Salolainen toistaa ”antisemiittistä uutisankkaa, jonka mukaan juutalaisten ilkeä salaliitto ohjaa mediaa ja Yhdysvaltain hallitusta”.

Translation:

According to the SWC, Salolainen repeated an ”antisemitic” canard, according to which an evil Jewish conspiracy directs the media and the United States government”

The publishing of the actual quote would have been the professional thing to do. You’ll have to wonder yourself why that’s so damn difficult for some of the media to handle. The Helsingin Sanomat however, reported the full quote.

  1. TUOKO on antisemitististä? Olen kuullut paljon pahempaakin tekstia 😀

    1. If repeating almost verbatim from the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion doesn’t classify as antisemitism, then the word itself doesn’t have any meaning.

  2. Mr. Salolainen is an ignoramus. Do they not have schools for the young in Finland? If I stated that the Finns control the Russian economy and media, would he understand the analogy and its idiocy?
