FINNISH BLOGOSPHERE CHASTIZES FINNISH MEDIA FOR FALLING FOR ESTELLE ACTIVISTS’ HONEY-TRAP………

It’s one thing that you can count on, the media being chained to an anti-Israel narrative.

Finnish Suomen Kuvalehti (h/t Kumitonttu), has a blog piece concerning the hyperbole used by the Finnish media over yesterday’s incident involving the IDF boarding the Estelle. Marko Maunula delivers an accurate comparison:

“I have received one speeding ticket in my life. I think I should express the experience in the future, as “armed groups of police stopped me, removed me from my vehicle, and examined my papers carefully. Despite the threatening situation, casualties were avoided.”

Here’s the article I translated from the original Finnish.

Estelle, the media and the propaganda trap

The Iltalehti told me this morning that “The aid ship Estelle in the final stage of it’s journey had been attacked by Israel.” Oh, that attack?

The Estelle’s web pages were the attention in at least four different news snippets of the story. Idealists story glowed with dramatic rhetoric: “Israel’s armed forces went on board:” We are under attack, “and” the Israeli army believes that this attack was the only option, “as well as” Estelle towed to port – no victims. “

“Armed forces” and “attack” – wow! This was anyways,  probably their service weapons carried by the soldiers’ in routine operations, aimed at preventing the entry into Gaza of weapons into the hands of terrorists. I have received one speeding ticket in my life. I think I should express the experience in the future, as “armed groups of police stopped me, removed me from my vehicle, and examined my papers carefully. Despite the threatening situation, casualties were avoided.

The Western media’s sinking into the Palestinian media trap is really weird. It’s very difficult to include the Gaza story into the framework about “the cruel Jews brutalizing the innocent Palestinians”, but in some way it often seems to happen.

Israel has had to declare the Gaza blockade, as the area has been used for continuous terrorist attacks and violence against Israel. Gaza is hosting a terrorist organization, Hamas, which dominates the area with an iron hand.

Hamas’s election victory in 2006 led to violence between the terrorist organizations, Hamas and Fatah, which led to, over the following years, to more than 250 Palestinians dead and hundreds wounded. That same year, Israel and Egypt declared the Gaza blockade, the Gaza violence spread outside the region. Israel and Egypt removed the blockades couple of years ago, allowing entry into the area of consumer goods.

Estelle crew probably meant well, and the world would be a better place if there were more self sacrificing humanitarians like them. But in the case of the Gaza operation it’s either stupidity or cynicism. Estelle crew had to know that they would not get into Gaza. That is, the operation has sacrificed money, man-hours and supplies, were not productive as propaganda tools. And for whom is the benefit of propaganda? Islamist terror organization, which in recent years has restricted the rights of the suffering Palestinian people more than Israel.

If Estelle crew and supporters would have liked to bring relief, but to where it’s really  needed, it should have been directed towards Syria. And at the same time Iltalehti would have seen  what an attack on the ship would rightly look like.
