While the focus of the article is on multiculturalism, and its racist attributes, I take the opportunity to point to Leftism/socialism that both spawns, implements and enforces it, for without the Left, much of the problems with immigration today would simply not exist. A society based upon freedom, representational government, individualism, the free market and respect for property rights, would never opt for such a (multicultural) society.
As I have said time and again, multiculturalism can only thrive within a political system that is based upon the policy of ‘group politics’, it’s a system where individualism simply can’t exist. Group politics is the fundamental backbone of the ‘progressive’ Left, whether we’re talking about communist socialism, national socialism, Fabianism or the modern welfare state social democracies of Europe, Canada and elsewhere in the West.
Lets face the facts, Leftists are stuck on race like fly on flypaper, they are fixated on the subject, and formulate their policies based upon it. Conservatives on the other hand, especially those who have a good understanding of traditional American principles and values of the founding fathers, focus rather on the individual, and upon their unalienable rights as free sovereigns. The Left however just sees ‘masses’ to manipulate and to exploit.
Now about the main theme in Chessler’s article, why multiculturalism is indeed racism. Chessler writes:
“Mansur’s conclusions? That multiculturalism really amounts to a form of “soft bigotry,” or as Pascal Bruckner has phrased it: “A racism of the anti-racists; it chains people to their roots.” Immigrants are kept confined to their “group” and not encouraged or expected to become “individuals” and “citizens” of a modern democracy.”
The humanitarian racist’s conclusion differs, however, from that of the ugly racist. He or she considers that as the non-white or weak cannot be held responsible for their acts, one should look away as often as possible even if they commit major crimes.
Others have termed it the ‘soft racism of lower expectations’, but no matter how it’s explained, or labeled, this acceptable form of racism (on the Left that is) is the most insidious of bigotries, because it’s all done with a smile and a thank you and on the taxpayer’s dime.
NOTE: It’s a utopian fantasy that only the Leftist mindset can conjure up, and believe in.
Why Multiculturalism Is Racism
Dr. Salim Mansur’s new book Delectable Lie: A Liberal Repudiation of Multiculturalism has been positively reviewed and endorsed by a handful of mainly conservative reviewers and distinguished intellectuals.
In my opinion, the book has been underestimated. It is a real gem. And, despite a recent spate of other important books on this subject, including Ibn Warraq’s Why the West Is Best, Mansur’s work is unique. Mansur gives us very valuable information about the history of multiculturalism in Canada, which is important because Canada — where Mansur lives, writes, and teaches — may well be the very first Western democracy to have legally enshrined this policy. We learn, up close, what that policy has done.
In 1971, in an era of “identity politics” rising, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau passed the multiculturalism policy. In 1988 it was further enshrined as the Canadian Multiculturalism Act. Mansur observes:
Explicit in this idea of multiculturalism was the officially sanctioned view that all cultures are of equal merit and deserving of equal respect.
