Nordic faux conservatism
It’s a supposed “conservative” led government pushing for more centralization. It’s called tyranny where I came from.
What this means in practical terms is the centralizing of power, the distancing of the citizen from true representation and direct contact with elected officials. It means that the concerns of the locals will be increasingly dismissed as far-away bureaucrats make decisions without direct input from those affected. It’s exactly like the Finnish state’s relation with the EU, as its domestic parliament regularly rubber stamps legislation of which 70% originates in Brussels, with no oversight from the Finnish voter.
The National Coalition (Kokoomus) is proving its non-conservative credentials with each day’s passing in its trashing of individual sovereignty, removal of responsive local government through its centralizing of power, as well as its gutting of the military, all done in the name of protecting the utopian dream of the welfare state.
They have long since given up on conservatism here, there’s not a Finnish politician left that is even capable of uttering a lone conservative principle, let alone understanding it, without knee-jerk paying homage to big government statism. It’s disgusting to see these jerks on TV spouting the need to contract local municipalities, to further centralize society, without ever discussing the main cause for their troubles…

These jerks, led by Jyrki Katainen, simply choose to accept the shrinking pie and cut yet more slices from it in the vain attempt to protect the welfare state. Utopia never works, it was only a matter of time for the welfare state based economy to come crashing down upon itself. The depressing thing is, it’s the supposed “conservatives” who are leading the charge, and they clearly haven’t the will, desire or need to espouse, let alone acquire, the needed proper principles to address the cause of the current crisis, that being, big expansive GOVERNMENT.
