IRAN THUMPS CHEST, SAYS IT’LL CLOSE HORMUZ STRAIGHT……..

Iran warns of closing strategic Hormuz oil route

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s navy chief warned Wednesday that his country can easily close the strategic Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, the passageway through which a sixth of the world’s oil flows.

It was the second such warning in two days. On Tuesday, Vice President Mohamed Reza Rahimi threatened to close the strait, cutting off oil exports, if the West imposes sanctions on Iran’s oil shipments.

In response, the Bahrain-based U.S. 5th Fleet’s spokeswoman warned that any disruption “will not be tolerated.” The spokeswoman, Lt. Rebecca Rebarich, said the U.S. Navy is “always ready to counter malevolent actions to ensure freedom of navigation.”

  1. I have some bad news for you. It has been a well known fact for years that the Iranians can close up the Straits of Hormuz anytime they wish; there is nothing the U.S. can do to prevent them from doing so.

There is of course, American threats of retaliation, war, etc. but America has never had the nerve to do anything about it. Soon, the Iranians will have the bomb (The O’Bama Administration wants Iran to get the bomb.) and that will be that. No oil for you!

  2. There’s enough oil in Canada to keep the World going for years. We’re not using as much of it as we could be, because the leftist political elite want us to keep using Saudi/ Kuwaiti/Iranian/Korang-Utan oil.
If however, the mad mullah regime of Ahmedinajad block off oil fromthe Middle East then we will have no choice but to use non-Arab sources. This won’t keep us going for too long, but the subsequent lack of a market for Muzzie oil will bleed them dry in the meantime. Funds for jihad will decline, Iranian and Saudi wealth will plummett and the Islamic World will have shot themselves in the foot. Petroleum is their ‘bread and butter’. They offer nothing else. They’d be fools to meddle with this.

  3. Let me continue if I may……

Let Iran do it, if they must!
We will suffer for a little while. There’ll be mass unemployment, a recession and a bit of pain, but in a few years we’ll get over it because we are creative enough and industrious enough to adapt. In time, we’ll wonder why we ever bothered trading with them.
In the meantime the Islamic Middle East will revert back to what they do best – blaming everyone else for their misery, killing each other, smacking their wives up, and eating their own excrement for breakfast. They will not be missed. They need us, but we need them like a kick in the teeth!

  4. Softly Bob:

I agree with everything you say. Unfortunately, the Saudis have all the “easy oil”. In other words, they have oil that can be produced at $1.50/gal. Canadian tar sands can’t compete. Once developed, the Saudis can put the Canadians out of business.

Most of America’s oil does not come from the Persian Gulf. However, Persian Gulf nations buy a TON of U.S. goods and services. Kiss that business goodbye of the Iranians clog up the straits of Hormuz.

Oil is a commodity. Without Persian Gulf Oil on the market, the price of oil doubles regardless of where it comes from.

Do YOU have a “plan B” for this? I do! My ’08 Chevy Impala runs on E85.

Here’s a little something you might not know. Since at least 2007, all GM cars run on either an E-37 (for small cars) or E-38 (for large cars) EFI ignition control computer. Both are capable of running your car on any combination of ethanol and gasoline. You can also run your car on methanol if you change out your fuel pump seal from Viton (TM) with Buna-N; a $0.41 part.

I understand that you have to play with your EFI computer to run your car on 100% methanol and/or ethanol, but this is not overly complicated. In the mean time, methanol can readily be made from coal, natural gas, recycled garbage, waste forest products, waste ag products or any kind of biomass without exception — this would demonstrate superior transportation economy from a non-petroleum fuel that is producible from plentiful American resources.

As you said: an Iranian blockage of the Straits of Hormuz would hurt the very people who deserve it most and boost the American economy for those who need it the most. It would cut off the money supply to the jihadists and the kickbacks to Western politicians (and corporations) keeping them in business.

So it’s kinda like Dirty Harry once said: “Go ahead! Make my day!”

  5. A lot of folks would be willing to sacrifice just to be rid of them.
