Indonesia Netherlands War Crimes

DUTCH ATROCITIES IN INDONESIA DURING INDEPENDENCE WAR, NOW PAYBACK TIME……..

Here’s an interesting factoid not readily known to the general public at large, Dutch soldiers executed an almost entire population of men (443) from a village in Indonesia without due process. The Netherlands committed this atrocity in their ‘police action’. Via the Bad News from the Netherlands blog. KGS

Dutch State Responsible for 1947 War Crimes in Indonesia

The Court in The Hague has judged that the Dutch state is responsible for the damage which the surviving family members have suffered from Dutch war crimes in the village of Rawagede on the island of Java. The Court decided that the state cannot claim statute of limitations despite the fact that the murders took place 64 years ago. On 9 December 1947, Dutch soldiers penetrated the village, searching for an independence fighter who the villagers were supposedly hiding. The Dutch soldiers executed 433 men – almost the entire male population of the village – without process. The Netherlands have never offered apologies or compensation. The commanding officer was not prosecuted.”

  1. Indonesians killed over 200.000 presumed communists during the Soeharto military rule

    1. Excellent point! While we condemn our own atrocities, the Muslims would never dream of doing so. Thanks for pointing that one out.

  2. It will be interesting to learn if/how the courts attempt to compensate for this event. Will it mirror legal regulations of Diya (sharia compliant blood-money)?
The Wall Street Journal, April 9, 2002: In Saudi Arabia, there is the concept of blood money. If a person has been killed or caused to die by another, the latter has to pay blood money or compensation.
    Pandora’s box.
