70 years ago today, a war between Finland and the USSR erupted that would become to be known as the Continuation War. The Finns held their own against the Marxists regardless of the deep challenges involved in defending the homeland, and in spite of losing portions Karalia and Lappland, they managed to keep their sovereignty, only to hand it over to a foreign power in Brussels almost 60 years later. Had the Finns not fought for their homeland they would have ended up as one more puppet of the Soviets.
