The Assad regime is acting in total accordance with how the socialist regimes of the Soviets and Nazis acted against their own. It’s taken straight out of the socialist playbook. If they’re ruthless enough and thoroughly control the army, any public insurrection will be crushed.
Like in Romania as in Egypt, the army didn’t exert total control and it ended with the leader being removed, and in Ceausescu’s case,executed.
