Disgraced academic who mocked Lara Logan over Egypt sex assault forced to quit top new job at Gaddafi’s favourite UK university
Academics who accepted millions of pounds from Colonel Gaddafi have sparked further outrage by awarding a prestigious job to a controversial writer who mocked a high-profile sexual attack victim.
London School of Economics bosses awarded Nir Rosen a research fellowship, reported by the London Evening Standard to be worth £50,000 ($80,000), one month after he lost his job at New York University for making fun of the CBS correspondent Lara Logan.
Mrs Logan was stripped, beaten-up and molested by a baying mob while covering the Egyptian Revolution. Rosen, 33, wrote on Twitter she was ‘probably just groped like thousands of other women’.
Today it has emerged that the scandal-hit Global Governance Centre at the LSE had made the appointment in the face of fierce calls for its closure because it accepted £1.5million from the Gaddafi regime.
And tonight, in a further twist, Mr Rosen tended his resignation from the unpaid role.
Mr Rosen was to work in London alongside Alia Brahimi, the researcher who infamously described Gaddafi as ‘Brother Leader’ on video and frequently enjoyed expenses-paid trips to Tripoli, and to stay with the tyrant’s son at his holiday home in Greece.
‘It’s an unbelievable appointment,’ said an LSE source, adding: ‘You’d think these people would have learned their lesson by now, but all they seem to want to do is rehabilitate highly offensive individuals.’
Rosen’s appointment was sanctioned by Mary Kaldor, the co-director of the centre which agreed the Gaddafi donations in 2009.
