MUBARAK TO STEP DOWN TONIGHT…….UPDATE…..NOT

UPDATE: He’s still hanging on by a thread.

Egypt’s Mubarak to step down, sources say

CAIRO — Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak is to step down, two sources told NBC News Thursday, as widespread protests against his 30-year rule continue to grip the country.

Following an all-day meeting of the country’s supreme military council, state television reported that the military council had expressed its “support of the legitimate demands” of the people.

NBC News reported that a high-ranking source inside the president’s office said Mubarak would step down and the newly appointed vice president, Omar Suleiman, would take over. This was then confirmed by a second source.

The news came following repeated warnings by members of the regime of a military crackdown or coup.
Some pro-democracy protesters reacted cautiously, saying they would only believe Mubarak was really resigning when he announced it on state telev.

  1. Looks like Mubarak is not going to step down. I don’t blame him.

  2. If there’s one sure way to make a fool out of one’s self, it is to repeat the reports of the mainstream LIB media as fact.

My prediction is as good as anyone’s. So here it goes:

    1. The Ikhwan will NOT take over Egypt. (We would be wise to worry about preventing the Ikhwan from taking over the USA.)

    2. Mubarak will stay on until the end of his term. If not, a trusted confident will take his place. The Egyptian Army will remain in control of the government.

    1. Oops. 🙂 But you’re half right, the military will stay in control, and who ever gets in, will be on waivers. The MB, if they’re smart, will take a page out of the Tirks AKP’s book and Islamize in increments.

  3. I like that Mubarak is basically saying: screw you Obama

  4. Well, despite the announcement Mubarak subsequently stated that he would be staying on until new elections in September.

Mubarak obviously has some heavy hitters who are backing him for the time being.
