FINNISH UTOPIA DENIED: COST FOR VISITS TO STATE HEALTH CARE CENTER TO INCREASE…….

Listen up folks, when politicians come around promising you utopia in exchange for your civil liberties, tell them to shove it. These snake oil salesmen are selling you a panacea that will only end up with your tax Euros and dollars going down a black hole, and with less services made available. Health care in Finland is like a national religion, it’s touted as being the “best in the world”, but those who are on waiting lists for surgery, months on end, would beg to differ. KGS

Health Centre Visits May Cost More

A discretionary payment could be levied for visiting a nurse at public health centres from the beginning of next year. A legislative change currently under preparation will give local authorities the right to charge a patient if a visit to a nurse is made instead of a doctor’s appointment. It is feared the proposed payment will hit the less well-off the worst.

The new regulation is being drawn up by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. Poverty Researcher, Ulla Jokela, from the Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (Diak) fears many lower-paid patients will not seek medical assistance as a result.

“Although a fee of 8.50€ may not seem much, it is a considerable sum for people surviving on around 500 to 600 Euros per month,” she notes. The Ministry says the change is designed to give more responsibility to nurses for patients’ welfare.

Minister of Health and Social Services Paula Risikko has assured that current payment ceilings will remain the same and that fees levied from patients will not rise. Local government authorities will decide individually whether to adopt the proposed payment.
