UAE: 1ST ARABIC TRANSLATION OF VATICAN-ISLAM RELATIONS BOOK

(ANSAmed) – DUBAI, NOVEMBER 30 – The complex relations between the Vatican and the Islamic world told by the German journalist Heinz-Jochim Fisher in his book “Between Rome and Mecca: the Popes and Islam” has been translated into Arabic, making it a literary record in the genre.

“There is no other book in Arabic that deeply explores the relations between the Vatican and Muslims,” commented Ali Bin Tamim, director of the Kalima project, who took care of the translation. Kalima, “word”, is an initiative that was launched in 2007 by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture with the ambitious aim of translating 100 books a year into Arabic, relating to various sectors of culture, science and information.

The book, which will go on sale in the coming weeks, covers relations between the Holy See and the Islamic world from the Crusades to the recent visits by Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI which Fisher witnessed. “An important book full of surprising information,” adds Tamim, praising “the journalistic and not academic style” of it which makes it accessible and guarantees “a pleasant read” also for the average reader.
