GEERT WILDERS TRIAL

BREAKING: PROSECUTOR IN GEERT WILDERS CASE TO DROP MAJOR CHARGE …….

Wilders: Ya think?

Rumor has it that the farcical kangaroo trial against Wilders is going to be called off on Friday. The whole process has been one major cock-up from the very beginning, trying somebody for offending people is a ridiculous case to prosecute. Using their logic, every one of these prosecutors should be brought up on charges of offending our common sense. KGS

UPDATE: from the SheikYes, it’s accurate. “Prosecutors: Dutch anti-Islam politician can’t defend himself by arguing his comments are true,” from The Associated Press, October 12:

AMSTERDAM — Prosecutors say Dutch politician Geert Wilders cannot defend himself on hate speech charges by arguing that remarks he has made critical of Islam are true. They say there is no general agreement about the nature of Islam and his statements are only his opinion….
Prosecutor Birgit van Roessel said at the start of her closing arguments Tuesday that the right to freedom of speech has limits, including when it infringes too far on the right of freedom of religion….

Dutch prosecutor seeks one Wilders’ charge dropped

.(AL-Reuters) –Prosecutors Tuesday asked a court trying Dutch legislator Geert Wilders, a pivotal figure in recent moves to form a coalition government, to drop a charge that he insulted Muslims as a group.

Wilders will still face charges of inciting hatred and discrimination against Muslims even if the court agrees to drop the charge that he insulted Muslims by comparing the Islamic faith to Nazism.
The prosecution was wrapping up its case Tuesday against Wilders and Friday will present its final sentencing demand.
Following inconclusive June elections and months of coalition talks, a new minority government made of the Liberals and Christian Democrats, and reliant on support from the PVV Freedom Party of Wilders, was expected to be sworn in on Thursday.
The prosecutor said that although the comments Wilders made about Muslims were offensive, they were not illegal.
“The comments by Wilders were directed against the faith of Islam. According to the public prosecutor, the Dutch law says this is not punishable,” the prosecution said on its website.
The prosecution had not originally wanted to charge Wilders with insulting Muslims, saying he was protected by the right to free speech, but a court overruled the prosecution and ordered Wilders charged.
The prosecution said Wilders’ comparison of the Koran and Islam with Hitler’s political manifesto Mein Kampf, nationalist socialism, fascism and communism could indeed hurt feelings, but that offending feelings was not a prosecutable offence.
