Henning Mankell has now proposed that the idea of a boycott of the Hebrew language is out of his mind. Had this been a debate in the private sphere, I would consider the matter be cleared up after such consent. But in a public debate intellectuals have a particular responsibility. One can not both plead that you were angry and at the same time require to be taken seriously.
Mankell says he would rather discuss the blockade of the Gaza Strip than the intellectual sustainability of their own moves. Such talks would have to be conducted with a partner who does not use their emotions as an excuse for their actions.
