FINLAND’S MIGRATION MINISTER FORCED TO GET TOUGH AS CUTS ARE SOUGHT IN ASYLUM BENEFITS…….

Aunti Thors:
Those darned Halla-aho supporters
have forced my hand!

If people like Jussi Halla-aho hadn’t made a noise about “refugee tourism” on their blogs, and created the debate that’s now currently in the public discourse, chances are extremely great that Migration Minister, Astrid Thors, would not be speaking of any reductions in allowences given to refugees. The tide is shifting, and it’s only begun. KGS

Thors Seeks Cut in Asylum-Seeker Benefits

Migration Minister Astrid Thors has proposed a cut in income supports paid to asylum-seekers. Under her plan, presented late Wednesday, the support would be 30 percent lower than minimum unemployment benefits paid to residents of Finland.
This would mean that monthly subsidies paid to an adult asylum-seeker living alone would drop from the current 375 euros to around 292 euros.
For asylum-seekers who are served all their daily meals at reception centres, the cut would be sharperat nearly 80 percent. Under the new system, a distinction would no longer be made between adults and minors.
At present, benefits paid to adult asylum-seekers are 10 percent lower than those paid to permanent residents, while those paid to minors are 15 percent lower.
Minister of Migration & European Affairs Astrid Thors ( YLE ) Thors made the proposal during the government’s Wednesday evening session.
Asylum-seekers are required to pay for their food, clothing and healthcare out of these subsidies. The income is also taxable.
