Obama tougher on Al-Qaida? The Dems are really scraping the bottom of the barrel with that one. They’re going to have to find new ways at explaining the “tough approach” of the Obama administration in regards to the Detroit Ball Bomber’s recent lawyering himself up in the face of his interrogaters.
There’s no being rough and tough handling of Umar Farouk Abdulmutalab, no sir, this Al-Qaida operative will be subjected to visits with his lawyer, not with visits to being waterboarded. There will be no extracting information from this guy, Obama’s policies has allowed law enforcement only to hope that the jihadi will cooperate with investigators, while his lawyer looks for loopholes in the investigation. John Hinderaker at PowerLineBlog gives a well needed lesson to the Dems:
“But playing defense against terrorists is essentially a losing game. They will inevitably pierce our defenses, if not on the first try then not long thereafter. What we need in the war against Islamic terrorists is offense, not defense. We can’t sit back and let them bring the fight to us; we have to attack them where they live, and–to be blunt–kill them before they train and equip fools like Abdulmutallab to kill us.”
Perhaps John is right, that self preservation will force the president to use more of the previous administrations tougher tactics, the operation in Yemen might prove to be the start of that kind of policy move. But as it stands right now, Obama’s policies being touted as having been tougher than the Bush administration’s, is looking rather lame right now. KGS
Democratic strategists Wednesday asserted President Barack Obama “has been far more aggressive in fighting al Qaeda” than the previous administration .
In an e-mail this afternoon to supporters — which incidentally excoriated Republicans for politicizing the attempted bombing of Flight 253 — the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) stressed it was President George W. Bush, not his successor, who relegated the fight against the terrorist network to the back burner by turning “its focus from al Qaeda to Iraq.”
