Pope Calls for Christian-Muslim Harmony…….

Dream on Pope

Contrary to what the Pontiff of Rome is hoping for, what the world needs most at this stage in history, is a very cold, frosty chill in relations between the sane West and the blithering stupid and anal Muslim/Arab world. There is no need for any kind of rapprochement with neanderthals who refuse to grasp the 21 century, they need us far more than we need them. KGS

Pope calls for Christian-Muslim harmony

AMMAN (Al-Reuters) – Pope Benedict visited a mosque on Saturday in another attempt to mend fences with Islam after a 2006 speech caused offence, and urged Christians and Muslims to jointly defend religion from political manipulation.

Speaking at the modern King Hussein bin Talal Mosque in Amman, he struck a note of harmony and shared purpose between the world’s two largest religions, continuing a main theme of his trip to the Middle East.

“I firmly believe Christians and Muslims can embrace (the task of cooperation) particularly through our respective contributions to learning and scholarship, and public service,” he told Islamic leaders and diplomats at the mosque.

Addressing the pope, Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad bin Talal, reminded the pope of the “hurt” Muslims around the world felt in 2006 after Benedict quoted a Byzantine emperor who said Islam was irrational and violent.

UPDATE: Blogger Carlos feels that the TT might have misunderstood the words of the Pope by relying too heavily on what the MSM reported about the Pope’s encounter and speech. According to Carlos in the comment section of this post:

He (the Pope) actually told them to “embrace reason” and to not use religion as a justification for extremism. You must also view it within the context of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s internal policies, which compared to Saudi Arabia and Iran are quite moderate and pro-Western“.

I’ll admit to having been fully reyling on the Al-Reuters version of the story, which was my mistake, I should have done some more looking around before posting it. Also, the TT does indeed understands how more mordern looking the Jordanians are in comparison to the Saudis, and that the Pontiff’s words should be viewed from that perspective. Thanks for pointing that out Carlos. Check out his own post on the incident here. KGS

  1. KGS, I am a big fan of your blog and I read it daily.

I typically concur with your assesments the vast majority of the time.

Although I agree with your overall thrusts regarding Islam, in general, the Reuters reports you cite have grossly over simplified the Holy Father’s remarks both yesterday @ Alia Airport and today at the Mosque.

He actually told them to “embrace reason” and to not use religion as a justification for extremism.

You must also view it within the context of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s internal policies, which compared to Saudi Arabia and Iran are quite moderate and pro-Western.

Having said that, the Roman Catholic Church now has the only Christian church in Qatar and is in negotiations with the Saudis to open one in the heartland of Mecca and Medina.

The RCC has been fighting Islam for 1400 years, much blood has been spilled both historically and till this day in countries like Turkey, Iraq, Sudan, Phillipines, etc. (especially post Regensburg)

Lastly, today at Mt.Nebo He re-inforced our historic and indisolable bonds with the People of the Book, world Judaism.

The Vatican and the great state of Israel are in on the verge of signing significant pacts which will embolden the Church against Islamo Fascists in Gaza and the West Bank, where there has been a huge exodus of Christians.

Benedict XVI is not some wild eyed utopian.

As Cardinal Ratzinger, he enforced the Doctrine of the Faith as John Paul II the Great’s right hand man and was on the cusp of history with the former Pontiff.
