Mayor of Helsinki on Asylum Seekers: “We Have to Return to The Role of Gate-Keeper…….

Common sense spotted in Helsinki Mayor’s office.
Jussi Pajunen: “The number of asylum-seekers must first be brought under control to a point where it corresponds to the ability to absorb them. Rather than acting as chuckers-in, we have to return to the role of gate-keeper.”
The mayor of Helsinki, Jussi Pajunen, National Coalition Pary (Kokoomus), recently made his worries known in his blog that the nation’s capital of Helsinki is failing in its immigration goals, and something needs to be done about it. So Helsinki city councilman, Jussi Halla-aho, is not the only one who is worried about unchecked immigration and asylum seekers coming into Finland, and without the ability of the city to incorporate them successfully into society.
The mayor of Helsinki sees the influx of immigrants into the Helsinki area, from just 2% in the 1990’s to almost 10% in 2008, as a worrisome trend seeing that unemployment for immigrants is 2.5 times that of the local population. One out of every four persons living in Helsinki is a foreign national. The mayor of Helsinki states:
“The City of Helsinki has set as one of its aims to turn immigration into a resource and a source of vitality. At the current rate, quite the opposite is happening”
The question now is, will the city continue to listen to the same voices responsible for the current mess, or will a more reasonable plan be installed to help the city cope with the large number of unemployed immigrants already on the dole? It’s a question of either maintaining wide open borders, or a tightening of the flood gates. It’s good to see that Finnish politicians from other parties are voicing these same concerns. More here.
