The LA Times has it:
VIENNA — Austrian far-right leader Joerg Haider was killed in a car accident early today, the national news agency APA reported. It quoted police as saying that Haider died after suffering severe head and chest injuries when the car he was driving went out of control and rolled several times outside the southern city of Klagenfurt. APA said Haider was alone in the car.
It is possible that the FPÖ is now better off since Jörg Haider had a lot of unpleasant baggage, so it is entirely a possibility that the FPÖ could now “swallow” the BZÖ since Haider is out of the picture.
Also, Jörg Haider was fighting against a new “Grand Coalition” of ÖVP and SPD. Which is now more than likely to come. The politicial differences between the so-called ‘Conservatives’ and the Social Democrats seem to be melting away.
They’re both just administrators on behalf of Brussel anyway, same thing in Sweden, the “right” and the social democrats are approaching the centre and fighting for the same voters. This means increased votes for SPD.
