The US congress is looking into extending a massive USD 2.7 billion aid package it Jordan to help their Middle Eastern alley cope with a recent economic crisis, top US officials were quoted today. The funds will be put to vote by the US house later in July and will entail an annual USD 900 million economic and military assistance, said Congressman Adam Schiff, during a visit to Amman.
“This parcel includes USD 500 million a year for three years of Economic Support Funds [ESF] and USD 400 million a year for three years of Foreign Military Financing [FMF],” he was quoted as telling the Jordan Times. The aid will run for the years of 2009 to 2011.
Just what the US receives in return for the aid money remains an absolute mystery, besides propping up the last vestige of western imperialism, the throne of King Hussein of Jordan. More here. *L* KGS
