What does Mariwan Halabjaee and Manfred van H have in common? Though coming from different parts of the world where both judicial systems and rule of law differ greatly, both are facing punishment for their role in the defacement of Islam.
“printing sheets of toilet paper with the sentence “Koran, the Holy Qur’aen” and sent them to about 15 mosques, television stations and magazines. In an accompanying letter, authorities say, he asserted that Islam’s holy book is a “cookbook for terrorists” that calls for acts of violence”
The former (Muslim) wrote “Sex, sharia and women in the history of Islam“. It’s a book about how Islam’s prophet Mohammed:
“had 19 wives, married a nine-year-old when he was aged 54 and that he took part in murder and rape. Last month a court in Halabja convicted him of blasphemy in absentia.”
What these two men have in common, other than their extraordinary show of courage, is the taking on of the religion that both demands and expects no criticism of itself, in any way, shape or form. One takes place in a region where women are habitually abused and murdered for dishonouring the family, while the other takes place in a dhimmified European state, that heaven forbid, wouldn’t want to risk offending the adherents to an intolerant religion.
Pamela mentions the “Piss Christ“, in which a crucifix of Christ was suspended in a jar of urine and photographed as a work of art in the US, which happened to win by the way, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art’s award in 1989. Christians and Jews, as well as other religions have had to endure disrespect and insult, it comes with the playing field.
The current spate of insults against the Islamic religion are done, for the most part, from the viewpoint that it is out of necessity, for no ideology, religion or belief system is beyond critique, insult or being made fun of. Freedom of speech automatically means the right to insult, in the expressing of one’s opinions, even in spite of being in bad taste.
The West needs to find some spine, and stop appeasing those who call for “tolerance” towards Islam, which is nothing more than an euphemism for submission to its supremacy. *L* KGS
