Israel: IAEA’s ElBaradei Must Go…….

“Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz called Thursday for Mohamed ElBaradei to be removed as head of the UN nuclear watchdog, saying he had turned a blind eye to archfoe Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The call for ElBaradei’s dismissal comes just days before the International Atomic Energy Agency is due to publish a new report on Iran’s nuclear programme, to serve as a key part of further discussions at the United Nations on whether to impose a third set of sanctions on Tehran.”

Let us now wrap our minds around this scenario. The Nobel Committee honored ElBaradei in 2005 with its “peace prize”, though for years, gross proliferation of nuclear technology went undetected by the IAEA under ElBaradei’s stewardship. The only reason why the IAEA found out about it is through the confession of Pakistan’s nuclear guru, AQ Khan.

The Times On Line now reports that tension is so high that the US fears (do they really?) that Israel will be soon launching an attack on Ahmadinejad’s 3000 uranium-enriching centrifuges. I had reported earlier last year on these centrifuges, both here and here. TOL:

A claim by President Ahmadinejad that Iran has 3,000 working uranium-enriching centrifuges sent a tremor across the world yesterday amid fears that Israel would respond by bombing the country’s nuclear facilities. Military sources in Washington said that the existence of such a large number could be a “tipping point”, triggering an Israeli air strike. The Pentagon is reluctant to take military action against Iran, but officials say that Israel is a “different matter”. Amid the international uproar, British MPs who were to have toured the nuclear facility were backing out of their Iran trip.”

Mohamed ElBaradei, has been both an international disaster and a nightmare for the international Atomic Energy Agency’s credibility, and has got to go. More here. *L* KGS
