During a visit to Washington by Israeli Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, the Israeli minister laid the case of what was happening along the Egyptian/Gazan border. I just recently stated, “what will it take for Israel to react to the continued shelling from Gaza?” The J’lem Post now quotes the Lebanese news daily, the Al-Ahkbar:
“credible diplomatic sources” as saying that American approval came after Israeli intelligence impressed on US officials the importance of a wide-scale operation as an answer to the unprecedented arms smuggling within Gaza.”
“intelligence depicted a worrying picture of an “arms race” between Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. In addition, Israel presented details of money transfers between the Islamic Jihad and the Al-Aksa’s Martyrs Brigades.”
The smuggling has continued under the observation of Israel’s other “partner for peace”, the Egyptians. They have allowed for the Palestinian “arms race” to proceed with little or no interference from Cairo. Please be reminded that this is supposedly an Arab country at peace with the Jewish state. With peace partners like this who needs enemies?
I still believe that there is a solution to halting the smuggling of weapons, munitions and explosives. It’s for Israel to retake the southern border with Eygpt, build a fifty meter deep trench the whole line of the Gaza/Egyptian border.
Another point worth mentioning. If the Palestinians, who supposedly “lead” the people of Gaza were so concerned over the welfare of the average Palestinian, why are they diverting funds from securing their well being, and dumping it into the purchasing of high grade weapons etc.?
If there really is a humanitarian crisis happening, the fault rests solely with the Palestinian “leadership”….once again. More here. *L* KGS
