al-Qaida EU Finland Lebanon Paleostinians Peace Plans Syria

Syria Still Screwing with Lebanon Creates Havoc…….

Yesterday Finland’s flagship newspaper (Helsingin Sanomat) published an op-ed –authored by four Scandinavian ex-foreign ministers– extolling the virtues of getting the Syrians to the negotiating table, while at the same time Syria was busy causing more havoc inside Lebanon. The Lebanese army has been for the past two days exchanging fire with the Fatah al-Islam terrorist group, which is suspected of having ties to the al-Qaida terrorist network.

According to Lebanese journalist and human rights activist, Elias Bejjani,:

The rulers in Damascus had brought in its mercenary fighters several months ago to the Palestinian Camps in Lebanon with the objective of stirring strife, creating an anarchy situation, obstructing the creation of the International Tribunal and, most importantly, prevent the rise of a strong self-reliant Lebanese State and institutions that would spread its control over every inch of Lebanese soil and disarm the militias and impose the rule of law.

Now mirror that “inconvenient truth” along side the fantastic assertion made by the ex-diplo “quartet” who wrote:

Regardless of Syrian appearances, the definitive factor is nonetheless its desire to sit at the same negotiation table. Syrian commitment could mean that the danger of a new conflict between Hezbollah and Israel would decrease, that Hamas would become more moderate and send a message to Iran that it also should reevaluate its politics again.”

Syrian appearances are more than obvious to people who are both grounded in rational thinking and understand the mentality that drives the Arab/Muslim regimes in the region. Simply put, Syria refuses to let go of its grip on Lebanon, and regardless of the many “well intended” op-eds by failed diplomats who repeatedly refuse to see the difference between democratically elected states and a dictatorships, won’t change that fact. *L* KGS

Update: Michael Totten has more it here.

Tundraman adds his input concerning the joint Scandi-exdiplo op-ed: I must say that it is a kind of a masterpiece: in the name of “peace” (and wrapping it nicely in those terms) it is, in fact, suggesting that EU lifts its economic embargo on Hamas, without preconditions. One has to read the article carefully in order to detect this message, but if this influential group of ex-ministers is doing its best to lobby for this end, the PA really has powerful allies..

Al states: Are they all *former* foreign ministers because they’re idiots?

PRICELESS.

The Tundra Tabloids’ good friend Solomon writes the following under the title, “The Four Nordic Stooges” ….nyuk, nyuk nyuk….:

I realize daylight comes in short gulps over the long Scandinavian winter, and those folks in the northlands may yet be waking from their long naps, but really, does it take four ex-Foreign Minsters to write this:

…Regardless of Syrian appearances, the definitive factor is nonetheless its desire to sit at the same negotiation table. Syrian commitment could mean that the danger of a new conflict between Hezbollah and Israel would decrease, that Hamas would become more moderate and send a message to Iran that it also should reevaluate its politics again…

Puh-lease. Yes, I’m sure Hamas is poised to become more “moderate” at any moment…and who knows how much worse Iran’s politics would be should they sit and “reevaluate” them further. Tundra Tabloids has the story of a silly op-ed by the former government high officials here, and here. The vikings are dead.

  1. Cause I am a Finn – unfortunately – I would like to say some words about Pär Stenbäck: null, zero, nil, nought, nolla. He really is something closer(er) to nothing with his Swedish speaking nothing company that is (<-empty space). There is no more words to describe I loathe those rodents who are round zero. Born in the rich family, done nothing, never, nothing, zero, nil... Well, the world is (still) free so they null, nil, zero, nothing, 0… can have they say – samma på svenska – Kan Pär knulla nolla? – Ari –
