Retired US Army Col. Jack Jacobs: British Soldiers a Disgrace……!

I previously wrote that “I would not stand in judgement over the actions of the fifteen Britons who were taken hostage by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. I have changed my mind, the behavior of the Brits that’s exhibited in the recent video footage –regardless of the editing– was unbecoming of any man or woman in uniform, I believe that Col. Jack Jacobs gives adequate reasons as to why.

Jacobs: “That was the most disgusting, most reputable, dishonorable performance I can remember in more than forty years in my relationship with the military service. I think every man and every woman who wears the uniform or “who as ever worn the uniform of his country” no matter country it is ought to be disgusted by this, these people.

And I think that the Ministry of Defence is culpable to, if it thinks that there is no difference between a reason and an excuse, it is clear from their statements today, and their actions before, during and after their capture that the single most significant and important thing,..was going home.”

As a former Second Class Petty Officer in the US Navy, I can honestly say that I am in total agreement with what Col. Jacobs said, who goes on to quote the British philosopher, John Stewart Mill:

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things, the person who has nothing for which he’s willing to fight, nothing which is more important than for his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free, unless made and kept free by the exertions of better men than himself.”
