Finland’s Miserable Protest Marchers…….

Finland’s “Defenders of Peace” organization (Suomen Rauhanpuolustajat) ran this sorry looking photo.

The big banner reads “No Attack on Iran”, “Justice for Palestine and Somalia”, while the little signs call Bush the number one terrorist as well as a boycott on Jaffa oranges.

So this Finnish “peace group” deems US president, George W Bush as the main villain, not an Iran that seeks to build nuke bombs in order to destroy Israel. For the SRP, only Muslims have rights, not Jews. I will also have to conclude from the picture that:

  1. there was a small crowd, and that no else cares about their protests
  2. there were no men participating, or
  3. the women were segregated from the men (gender apartheid).
  4. the knowledge that Israel has a dynamic economy and that its oranges make up a minuscule percentage of its overall exports is completely lost on these nitwits.

But hey, let them focus on their (ages old) racist boycott, I still enjoy buying my Jaffa oranges at my local market, which is proof that these anti-Israel protesters are not the sharpest blades in the kitchen drawer. *L* KGS

Update: Why don’t these “peace protesters” march against the discrimination and murdering of gays in the Middle East? But wait, they would have to focus exclusively on Muslim states and the Palestinian Authority, not Israel. Besides, most of the protesters pictured in Helsinki would probably approve of the discrimination and murders of gays. *L* KGS

Note: Thanks to Debbie Schlussel for posting on it first.

  1. Hi (is it KGS?)
I saw your post on Evan Sayet and that you were an American ex-pat living in Finland. I’m an English teacher in Sydney who has had a couple of Finnish students and many European students so after having been introduced to Finland through him, became interested in this country which has one of the highest rates of suicide and alcoholism. It’s a fascinating culture and language.
I want to encourage you as an American living there. I don’t know if you are a Christian but even as a true Conservative, I believe that you have a role to play there. America has a unique calling and identity and those Americans who have dispersed to other ends of the earth are to be salt and light there if you know what I mean. My mother is an American who married an Australian and moved here and she has had an extraordinary impact on this country. (She is a well-known speaker in her circles) Now, I as a blogger am joining networks here in Australia whose goal is not only the blogosphere but to begin to organize demonstrations and lobbying. Aus has had a very working class party type mentality for years and now a new Conservative movement is rising here which is quite vibrant.
Be encouraged. As an American, you have a very specific role in this world. Keep up the great blogging.

  2. You said: the knowledge that Israel has a dynamic economy and that its oranges make up a minuscule percentage of its overall exports is completely lost on these nitwits.

I think it’s not totally lost. I think that the success of Israel is the reason why they hate her so much. Success is unforgivable to the liberal movement. If there’s a winner anywhere, that entity must be destroyed and the loser praised and elevated.

  3. Hi Dee,
    Thanks for the comments.
There are many of us who do what we can with what little we have on hand. It’s great to know that there are others out there contributing as well.

Keep up the good work and best regards! *L* KGS
