The UNSC finally decides on sanctions against the Iranian regime, after gutting the tougher details to suit the likes of Russia and China, both of which have extensive business contracts with the Mullah run theocracy. The highly watered down version calls for:“all countries to ban the supply of specific materials and technology that could contribute to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. The sanctions also impose an asset freeze on key companies and individuals in the programs named on a UN list.”
While being touted as the first “significant step” by the international community at reigning in the Iranians, the details of the sanctions are far from what was originally called for. In spite of the back pedaling by the UNSC, its declaration was met with both disdain and contempt by the Iranians, who announced their intentions to:
“From Sunday morning, we will begin activities at Natanz – site of 3,000-centrifuge machines – and we will drive it with full speed. It will be our immediate response to the resolution,”
More bombast or an emphatic underlining of their intentions all along?
The Iranian response must be viewed under the light of their stated intentions from the beginning of the Iranian revolution, the wanting/needing to annihilate the Jewish state of Israel. The Iranian call for genocide against a fellow UN member state cannot be understated over overlooked. Openly stated intentions coupled with the drive for nuclear weapon capabilities, is all the evidence one needs to decide whether the Iranian state presents a clear and present danger.
Hopefully these sanctions will not be the only ones passed by the UNSC, because the Iranians show absolutely no signs of changing their behaviour, which has remained unchanged from the very beginning of their miserable revolution. More here. *L* KGS
