Assad Altaee Abu Guilal, the Iraqi governor of the predominantly Shi’ite province of Najaf, (site of Shi’ia Islam’s holiest shrines) described his thoughts of the day, that saw local Iraqi government receive control over their province from the US-led Coalition….. in fluent Finnish:
“Rauhallinen, ihana, aurinkoinen, kaunis päivä (a peaceful, wonderful, sunny, beautiful day)”
The governor of Najaf happens to be also a Finnish citizen, having fled with his family to Finland from Saddam Hussein’s Iraq in 93′.
“Our own army and our own police are taking care of the whole province. In Najaf people are satisfied. They are happy. This is like Christmas”.
